YouTube videos just got a whole lot better. Yesterday, the popular video watching and sharing platform owned by Google announced that it will be offering 150 royalty-free instrumental tracks to give users the option of implementing melodious tunes to their clips. The best part, aside from the fact that all of the music is free, is that the new feature is currently available “forever, for any creative purpose.”

Any video of any length of any genre needs some kind of score, whether to add to the dramatic or thrilling or even the passionate, in oder to amplify the mood or overall message conveyed by said flick. It can be a high school highlight reel, the creation of an aspiring filmmaker, or a multimillion dollar blockbuster, music is critical to the development and engagement of any storyline.

YouTube recognizes this more than anyone and because the site is so dedicated to making your movie making, and watching, experience as optimal as possible, their tracks are completely free.

Getting your hands on the instrumentals are easy and fast, because YouTube knows you don’t want to have to wait to add a little harmonious flair to your footage. “You’ll find a link to the library in your video manager and you can browse the tracks by mood, genre, instrument and duration. The tracks can be downloaded as 320 Kbps MP3 files.”

And it’s not like these instrumentals are some kind of digitalized-Frankenstein-of-a-track. YouTube searched far and wide to find the likes of “an acquaintance down in LA, music houses across the country and a well-known music producer in Brooklyn. And it turns out the latter produced albums for Phish and Sean Lennon.”

So go ahead and check out the new royalty-free instrumental library offered by YouTube and let us know how you think they sound and if you plan on using any for your next viral sensation.
