One of the best things about the fall season (besides the weather, apple picking and wardrobe change) is, without a doubt, the drinks. Yum. And if you’re like me, there’s nothing better than the flavors of fall all in one glass, spiked (of course) with the perfect liquor accompaniment.

After all, the changing leaves and the sweater weather is short-lived in New England. Before long, pumpkin patch hopping will be replaced with visiting ski resorts. So, let’s take full advantage of the libations that fall has to offer. One in particular this week: the “Pumpkin Old Fashioned.” Yes, you can have an old fashioned any old time – but not with this pumpkin twist.

Whether you decide to hit the town this weekend or indulge in a much-needed staycation, make sure you imbibe on this very special fall happy hour treat. Here’s how:

Buy It

Here you have it—a mason jar filled to the brim with the flavors of fall from Finch’s bar at the Boxer Hotel in Boston. Are you drooling yet? This Pumpkin Old Fashioned is made with pumpkin puree, bourbon (obvi), maple syrup and Grand Marnier. After tasting the drink for myself, I can attest to its perfection. The drink is only one of Finch’s delicious autumn specialty cocktails. I highly recommend sipping on this seasonal treat at Finch’s unique and lively bar this weekend, located at 107 Merrimac Street in Boston.

Make It

Or, if your couch is calling your name (hey, it’s been a long week), then try making it yourself right at home. According to the mixology experts at Finch, here’s how you can shake it up yourself.

Pumpkin Old Fashioned from Finch

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. pumpkin puree
  • 1 ˝ oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. maple syrup
  • ˝ oz. Grand Marnier

Orange peel twist or rosemary sprig for garnish.

Method:

1)       Combine pumpkin puree, bourbon, syrup, Grand Marnier and bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

2)      Shake well and strain through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled old fashioned glass filled with fresh ice.

3)      Garnish with a rosemary sprig or orange peel.

But who really has time for that? My suggestion: pull yourself up off the couch before autumn’s end and head to Finch for this new fall twist on the Old Fashioned drink.
