Samsung’s recent foray into the smartwatch game with its Galaxy Gear may become a bit more legitimate. Though it won’t be available in the U.S. until October, by the time it reaches our fair shores it could come with substantial upgrades. It’s being reported that Samsung’s best-selling Galaxy S4 smartphone will be receiving support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch come next month.

Samsung announced both the Galaxy Gear and the Galaxy Note III smartphone/tablet hybrid, announcing their seamless compatibility, earlier in September and because either gadget has yet to be released domestically there’s been plenty of speculation as to how well they’ll perform, more so with the Galaxy Gear.

Being able to integrate the GS4, arguably Samsung’s greatest smartphone creation to date, and the Galaxy Gear is a step in the right direction as the Galaxy Gear simply hasn’t proven its formidability. The GS4 reinforces the Galaxy Gear’s chances because by the time June rolled around, Samsung had already sold upwards of 20 million GS4 units.

The news of the Galaxy Gear’s upcoming compatibility comes courtesy of Android Central via The Korea Times where “president of strategic marketing for mobile business, DJ Lee, told reporters to expect a Gear-enabling update on the Galaxy S4 by ‘next month,’ to be followed by Gear support for the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 by the end of December.”

The technical timepiece Galaxy Gear will be released in October in the U.S. and Japan for $299 and may be more worth purchasing than initially thought because of Samsung’s intent on making it syncable with the most popular of its smartphones and phablets.
