Here’s one good reason to actually look forward to the depths of winter this year: a new ice skating rink is coming to Boston. According to the Boston Business Journal, Equity Office is planning to open the ice skating rink under the iconic arch of Rowes Wharf by Thanksgiving. This means that come snowflake weather, you can glide and twirl your heart out right by the (frozen) waterfront.

Equity’s senior vice president, John Conley, stated that the rink will hold up to 20 skaters (cute) and will be open through February. The skating rink will be particularly picturesque along the water at Rowes Wharf and will surely attract more visitors, especially during the winter months.

The site, which opened in 1987, is known for its “375,000-square-foot waterfront office and retail complex,” and is anchored by the Boston Harbor Hotel. The northendwaterfront.com reports that this skating rink is a part of the “transformation of Rowes Wharf… into a 24/7 property with outdoor events and cafes.” Restaurants and bars like Meritage, Sea Grill, Rowes Wharf Bar and Alley Bar have all sprung up over the years as Rowes Wharf has increasingly grown in popularity.

Now, the ice skating rink will serve as an added incentive, enticing Boston residents and visitors alike to visit the Rowes Wharf area this winter. John Conley told the Downtown Waterfront Municipal Harbor Planning Advisory Committee that the ice rink would be “something that will keep the activity coming down here.” And we’re pretty sure this little ice skating rink will do just that.
