As the bipartisan showmanship remains strikingly absent from Congress, the Senate just rejected a House of Representatives measure in an attempt to continue government funding before the midnight deadline. This latest move by the Dems and the GOP is just another volley in the continuous back-and-forth of unsatisfying legislation.

If passed, the Republican-controlled House’s resolution would call for, “delay the individual mandate in the health care law and eliminate health premium subsidies for members of Congress, their staff and the president,” as noted by CNN.

Under such an enactment, individuals without employee-provided healthcare would not be financially penalized for not possessing healthcare. Further, Congressional members and their accompanying staff, was well as President Obama, would have their health premium subsidies eliminated.

As expected, the Senate put its legislative foot down and voted down the bill in similar fashion from this morning. The vote was a 54-46 tally, same as this morning, with all sides remaining firmly entrenched holding their positions. Unless both the Senate and the House pass some kind of budgetary scheme by midnight, the government will shutdown until further action is taken. The last government shutdown occurred in 1995 and 1996 when the Clinton Administration and Speaker Newt Gingrich’s House GOP couldn’t come to terms on likewise government funding. The shutdown is estimated to have cost Uncle Same hundreds of millions of dollars.

President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) each made it abundantly clear that the left-wingers won’t stand for the defunding of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) or a government shutdown at the hands of John Boehner and friends, when the Senator and his constituents voted down a GOP measure from the weekend and the President took to the airwaves to commend them of such.
