A woman was struck and killed by a commuter rail train this morning between the Prides Crossing and Montserrat MBTA station, transit police confirmed.

Officers received a report at 9;50 a.m. of a pedestrian possibly stuck by the train. Transit and Beverly Police, Fire and EMS units reported to the scene.

Transit police said a white woman, age unknown, was trespassing on the right of way area of South Thissel Street when she was struck by an oncoming train.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office has joined the investigation into the circumstances leading to the incidents, Transit Police say.

Shuttle buses have been set in place to help cope with what MBTA expects say will be major delays on the Newbury/Rockport Line.
