Public transit will be improved in the Innovation district.

The Boston Globe reported that city and state officials will announce a plan for proposed improvements that include a mobile app to locate empty metered spots and install electronic signs by the end of November that update traffic information.

Mayor Tom Menino and MassDOT Secretary Richard A. Davey joined officials today for the announcement.

Lines along the Moakley Bridge will also be repainted while signs are installed at various intersections to reduce traffic, according to the Globe.

Innovation District bus lines will be assessed and improved by next fall, the MBTA said, while Hubway  stations — on top of the six already in the area — are expected by Spring 2014.

Beginning next year, the Globe reports, ferry shuttles between South and East Boston will be accessible because of a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“The steps we are taking today — and planning for the future — to connect (the Innovation District) with the rest of Boston will make it even more attractive and accessible to companies, their employees, residents, and visitors,” Menino said.

The Innovation District is in the process of massive development projects, including the 23-acre Seaport Square and Watermark Seaport, a residential building on the corner of Seaport Boulevard and Boston Wharf Road.

Seaport Square is slated for 6.35 million square-feet of total development.
