Not everyone’s artwork is destined to be displayed at the MFA. But that doesn’t mean one can’t try. And what better way to have your artistic talents noticed than to have your work displayed as a permanent fixture at a very public place in Boston? Fortunately for all Boston artists and art lovers alike, Artaic and Design Exchange Boston (DXB) have teamed up to create the competition Design ‘N Gather.

But this art competition isn’t your middle school art contest. No flimsy blue ribbons will be won here. Instead, the winner of Design ‘N Gather will have their work permanently installed at Gather restaurant in District Hall, Boston’s Innovation Center. Not just any artwork though: an original mosaic. The team will provide artists with design tools and in turn, design professionals will determine the winning mosaic to be displayed for all to see.

The mosaic will then be produced by Artaic, using the company’s design software and manufacturing systems. The company finds themselves “at the intersections of digital and physical, art and technology” when designing tile.

Design Exchange Boston is a week long celebration of the impact of design, featuring events and experiences. Artaic “combines modern technology with an ancient art form to revolutionize the design and production of mosaic art.” The company’s design software and “robotic manufacturing systems” enable them to make custom-made mosaics in the most efficient way possible.

And you don’t need to be an official “artist” to enter. The competition welcomes designers from all backgrounds including fashion, interior, photography, painting, architecture and any other creative design field.

Besides having the original artwork displayed at a Boston restaurant, the winner will also receive a $100 gift certificate to Gather restaurant as well as national recognition. All submissions are due next Friday, October 11 and the winner will be announced October 13. Check here for more details

So, whether you’re an aspiring artist or simply appreciate beautiful detailed art work, make sure to stop by Gather restaurant mid-October to check it out.
