UPDATE (4:10 pm): Raw video of the chase via NBC Washington:

UPDATE: (3:37 pm): The vehicle reportedly attempted to pass a barricade near the front of the White House. At least five Secret Serice officers made an effort to stop the vehicle, which then reversed suddenly, hitting a police car and speeding off. Shots were subsequently fired by the officers, not suspect. To date, there’s no information that this is related to terrorism but rather appears to be an isolated incident. A child is belived to have been in the car. The officer struck by the car was injured and evacuated by helicopter, reportedly conscious and breathing, but not shot. No condition mentioned on the suspect, though she appears to be in custody. – U.S. Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine at Capitol Hill press conference

UPDATE (2:55 pm ET): U.S. Capitol no longer on lockdown: Capitol Police – @Bloomberg News

The U.S. Capitol was on lockdown after shots were fired outside the building in Washington D.C. The news broke around 2:30 pm ET Thursday. The apparent shooting came less than a month after the district endured the tragic Navy Yard shooting carried out by Aaron Alexis.

Those who heard the shots are reporting that it may have taken place near the Senate Hart Office Building near Capitol Hill as well as in the direction of the Rayburn Office Building.

According to a live blog by Reuters, “Members of Congress say they heard 6 or 7 gunshots while they were on the Capitol balcony coming from near the House office buildings.” Further, the Associated Press is saying that an officer may have been “injured in the gunfire.”

It’s possible that the suspect may have tried to ram the gates of the White House, as noted by ABC News, though law enforcement officials have yet to confirm those details.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to BostInno for the latest details regarding the U.S. Capitol shooting as we’ll be sure to keep you updated once more information continues to be made publicly available.
