The south might be the region of BBQ experts, but one thing is for sure: Boston knows seafood. Where else in the world can you find warm, succulent lobster rolls, with buns so buttery that they practically melt in your mouth? Or cold water oysters that are as briny as they are plump? In your very own city, of course.

Most Boston residents take for granted that the freshest and tastiest seafood is only a short walk away. I remember when I first moved to Boston I was in total seafood heaven—especially given that my only experience with Legal Sea Foods was that hour long layover in the Boston Logan Airport. Le sigh.

Now that I live here permanently, Boston’s seafood has quickly become a staple part of my weekly diet. Hey, I’m not complaining and apparently, neither are you. This week USA Today released their Readers’ Choice Contest awards for 10 Best Seafood Restaurants in America.

And of course not one, but two of our favorite Boston restaurants made the list. Coming in at number one was Legal Sea Foods and at number seven was Union Oyster House. Perhaps Boston tourists chose Union Oyster House as a fave but Legal Sea Foods, without a doubt, deserves the title as best American seafood restaurant.

The USA Today contest took place over the course of four weeks. Readers all over the country voted on the USA’s “Best Seafood Restaurant.” And just in case you’re traveling outside the Boston area and find yourself craving fresh seafood elsewhere, here’s where to find the other top ten:

  1. Legal Sea Foods, East Coast
  2. Mabel’s Lobster Claw, Kennebunkport, Maine
  3. Cantler’s Riverside Inn, Annapolis, Md.
  4. Bowens Island Restaurant, Charleston, S.C.
  5. Uncle’s Fish Market & Grill, Honolulu
  6. Joe’s Stone Crab, Miami
  7. Union Oyster House, Boston
  8. Red Fish Grill, , New Orleans
  9. Elliot’s Oyster House, Seattle
  10. Mama’s Fish House, Maui
Where’s your favorite seafood in the city?
