It’s starting to get cold outside which means you need to find something to do while you’re inside…besides eating apple pie. That’s where classes at BCAE, and others around town, come in. And yes, we realize it’s already October 9, but it’s still not too late to sign up for any of these fun courses. Whether you’re looking to eat, drink or paint, we’ve got you covered. Here are just a few fall-themed classes going on in and around the city of Boston during the month of October.

All October: “Making Maki Roll” Classes

Hosted by Sea to You Sushi. Learn how to make Maki Rolls using fall veggies and fish. Classes are open and ongoing throughout the month of October so find a date that works for you.

Tonight, October 9: Paint Nite Class hosts “Turning Leaves”

The creative and fun paint class will let you get in touch with your inner artist while celebrating your favorite season. Paint Nite is hosting a fun class at Michael’s Harborside in Newburyport. For more information check out the details here.

October 10: Fall Wine Seminar: Abruzzi, Campana,Tuscany

Last National Wine Company hosts this wine tasting class, which will take place a short drive away in Acton, MA. Students can taste the wines and learn about some of Italy’s most well-known wine regions.

October 12: “Meat Market: Underappreciated Cuts”

You can join Chef Katie and Chef Richard at the BCAE to learn “how to sear, grill, roast, and slice to perfection and create quick sauces and rubs.” Perfect for those who find themselves a bit intimidated by the cooking meats, this class should help you prepare to cook for that holiday party you’re planning. October 19: “Glassblowing: Glass Pumpkins”

BCAE hosts a Glass pumpkin workshop. Yep, pretty zany but might make for a fairly entertaining time. You’ll learn how to “create hollow glass pumpkins with decorative stems. The glass pumpkin will give the first time blower a strong introduction to creating sculptural glass pieces in the hot glass studio.” Who knows—maybe you’ll even discover a hidden talent?

October 19: “Boozy Brunch”

Hey, why not? Learn what makes a boozy brunch so great. The BCAE and Chef Dustin will be leading “through delicious breakfast dishes and boozy, bubbly concoctions.”

October 19: “Chocolate Workshop”

Boston Chocolate Tours hosts a hands-on chocolate workshop to learn how to make show-stopping truffles filled with anything from champagne cream to chocolate peanut butter. Perfect for a holiday present or a fall treat for yourself.

October 20: “Gluten Free Halloween Chocolates

With Halloween quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about the candy. Hosted by the BCAE, this candy loving class will teach you how to mold “filled chocolates, ganache truffles, and a flourless chocolate cake recipe that is endlessly adaptable.”

October 22: Fall Wine Class: Explore the Valleys – Loire & Southern Rhone

Hosted by Last National Wine Company in Acton, MA, you can learn about your favorite French wines. The class will be lead by Freddy Cicerchia, VP of Martignetti Companys.

October 24: “Fall Harvest

A fall harvest is the epitome of the season. The BCAE hosts a “hands-on cooking class that makes the most of Fall farmers market finds.” Recipes will include your favorite fall foods such as butternut squash, escarole and other early fall delights.

October 28: “Brew and Chew with Greg Jordan & Notch Brewing”

You can join Mare’s Greg Jordan and the brew masters from Notch Brewing for a “hands-on evening of creating delicious recipes and the beers that will make them even better.” With a top notch chef and brewers, you are sure to enjoy these pairings this fall. Details here.
