It’s 4am and you’re driving through the O’Neil tunnel only to find that the two left lanes are closed down due to construction. Sure there’s a cop sitting there in his cruiser, lights flashing their usual red and blue, but it’s 4am and he’s probably asleep. With little-to-no fellow drivers accompanying you on the thruway underneath Boston at this ungodly hour, your odometer is reading a little higher than usual. Then the lanes shift, and you’re forced to swerve over in order to avoid rear-ending said cruiser.

But then, those flashing red and blues are joined by blaring sirens as they don’t fade in your rearview mirror; rather they approach, closer and closer, until, yup, time to pull over.

The Massachusetts State Police uploaded a video of just this to its YouTube account yesterday, likely trying to inform the general public of how to drive safely — especially in construction zones — rather than shame the driver, who is mentioned by name in the description box below the footage. Surprisingly, after “Trooper Clement stopped the motor vehicle,” he found that “The operator was not impaired.”

Drive safely, my friends.
