Halloween is almost here and in addition to the candy, Jack-o-Lanterns and costumes galore, this also means it’s time to indulge in some classic scary movie viewing. I’m talking edge of your seat, sweaty palms, pillow clutching-worthy Halloween movies that thrill and terrify you over and over again.

If you find yourself out on the town this weekend when the clock strikes 12, there’s only one acceptable thing to do this October: see a scary movie at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. Why? Because not only is the theatre a cool New England landmark, but it’s also one of the few places where you can drink and watch a movie at the same time.

For me, scary movie watching is synonymous with wine time. If you can make it through a gut-wrenching, terrifying movie then you certainly deserve a glass of pinot. At least, I know I do.

Fortunately for all of the scary movie fans out there, the cinema will be showing two Halloween movies this weekend after midnight. Insidious will be playing at 11:59pm both on Friday and Saturday night. The film, starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, depicts a family who is haunted by dark spirits and (in classic scary movie fashion) a possessed son.

The second film that will be playing after midnight is The Witches, starring Anjelica Huston. The movie is somewhat dated (but that’s also what makes it so great). The amusing horror story involves a nine-year-old and his grandmother who try try to thwart a “witch’s plot” of turning children into mice. Oh my.

For those who don’t know, the theatre is located at 290 Harvard Street in Brookline. Tickets are $10 for adults. Libations and food are available inside. You can buy your tickets ahead of time online here and enjoy the after midnight scare.
