We’ve all cried a little bit for the MBTA, both inside and out, but have you ever bled for it? Me neither, but I might. On October 24, the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR), operating under MBTA contract, will host a blood drive on a parked commuter rail train at South Station aptly called the ‘TRAIN-sylvania Blood Drive.’

As much as I’d like for the Halloween theme adorning the innards of the train car will be in jest for how horrifying MBTA service can often be, this is the MBCR Workforce Diversity Advisory Council’s 3rd annual Halloween-clad blood drive to benefit patients of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Last year’s event was held at Boston’s North Station and was, as deemed per RailInnovation, an “immense success.” Eligible donors can book appointments between 10 am. and 1 pm on the 24th, this year at  South Station’s Track 8.

Got to hand it to the MBTA here. What could be easily be a monotonous event filled with waiting in uncomfortable plastic chairs, squeemish adolescents passing out from the sight of a fingertip pin-prick, and tawdry Halloween costumes galore may actually just be the latter. And that’s totally okay. Nothing wrong with a little holiday spirit, after all.

Naturally, coming dressed in the appropriate ghoulish attire is encouraged and sinister snacks and devilish drinks will be provided. The real kicker, though, aside from celebrating Halloween a few days early and aiding the sick and impoverished, is that donors will receive a free Halloween long-sleeve T-shirt, though, supplies are limited so come early.

For more information on the drive or if you want to make an appointment, check out the Facebook page here or contact MBCR at 617-222-8127 register.  For eligibility information please contact the Blood Donor Program at 617-632-2568. A photo ID is required.

(Insert obligatory Vampire/blood donation joke here).
