Let’s face it: while beachy hair is perfectly acceptable in the summer, it’s not quite as cute in the winter. Fortunately, along with the cold weather comes lots of extra time spent indoors to experiment with some of the latest hair styles and trends. Not to mention, the cooler weather also means the end of hair’s worst enemy: heat and humidity. No fro, no problem, it’s time to start thinking about a new creative hairdo for the fall and winter.

We talked with Creative Director and Co-Founder Nick Penna of Be Styled, a European technique blowdry lounge in Chestnut Hill, to find out what the hottest hair trends will be this fall and winter. Here are a few of the hair trends he recommends experimenting with this season:

The Deep Side Part

Penna explains that “the hottest hair trend right now for the fall and winter is definitely the deep side part. This simple look was all over the New York Fashion Week runway this past September and really works with every style whether you are wearing your hair curly or even in a ponytail.”

According to Penna, here’s how to achieve the look at home.

  • To begin, apply a small amount of Kerastase Mouse Bouffante from roots to ends then grab a wide tooth comb and create a deep side part that best suits you.
  • Start blowdrying using a medium round brush, parting into small sections and holding the nozzle up to create volume while rolling the hair round the brush from mid-shaft to ends
  • To finish off the look, use Laque Dentelle from Kerastase to keep hair in place and you are all set

The Side-Swept Hair

According to Penna, “the side-swept trend is the hot and popular look for this season. It can add drama to your sleek or curly style or even your ponytail, by infusing an element of timeless cool. At Be Styled, we incorporated the deep side part into our signature style ‘be swanky’ — its the perfect style for that fabulous evening or holiday event.”

To achieve this hairdo right at home:

  • Start with damp hair and apply a volumizing mouse — I’d suggest the Mouse Bouffante from Kerastase. A deep side part is one of the hottest looks of the fall so use a wide tooth comb to create a deep side part then blowdry as normal. Be sure to add a little bit of volume while blowdrying and make sure to keep it smooth and sleek near the root!
  • Once that is complete, begin to wrap small sections of hair around a one or two-inch curling iron, but make sure to curl only the bottom 3-4 inches of hair (depending on your hair length).
  • After you are done curling, bring your locks to the side furthest from your part and use bobby pins to pin the middle section of the hair to the nape of your neck.
  • To keep the look in place, I’d finish with the Laque Dentelle from Kerastase then you are ready to go!

The Un-Done Bun

According to Penna “Another hot trend for this season is the ‘un-done’ bun or the ‘be swept up’ as we like to call it at the lounge. This look is perfect for a day to night look that will last all day especially for after-hours fun!”

To get this up-do at home:

  • Start off with dry hair and grab a Mason Pearson style brush to pull hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic band.
  • Grab the ponytail and begin to coil it with one hand into a bun at the back of your head.
  • Secure the coiled hair with bobby pins as you wrap.
  • Take any loose strands of hair and wrap them back around the bun, securing with more bobby pins (this look is meant to look imperfect!)
  • To finish the look, spray hair with Laque Dentelle from Kerastase, which will hold the look in place.

Which hairdo will you be rocking this season?
