Enough with the pumpkin raviolis, butternut squash and typical fall fare — said no one ever. Well, until now. Yes folks, it’s time to take a break from all the fall carbs and instead, start focusing on the often overlooked fall desserts. I suppose this week’s “dish of the week” should really be called our dessert of the week. After all, what good is a delicious fall pasta without something sweet to top off your autumn-inspired dinner?

But not just any dessert. No, this week’s fall dessert of the week is the Sunflower Crumble Cheesecake from Harvest. And trust me, this is not your mom’s cheesecake. The slice of Harvest heaven comes with an apple crisp top layer, drizzled with armagnac caramel, brown butter powder, chestnut graham cracker crumbs, apples and allspice mousse.

First of all, the allspice mousse alone deserves its own plate. The creamy, rich and sweet mousse perfectly complements the more savory cheesecake. And the apple crisp atop the dessert, creates almost a mix between the beloved classic cheesecake and a fall apple cobbler, which is A-Okay by me.

Besides dessert, Harvest also offers a variety of other fall dish-ilicious options including an Herb Crusted Axis Venison that will make you do a little jig for their fig (jam, that is), drizzled atop the succulent dish. Or try Harvest’s fall-inspired Scituate Day Scallops with roasted sugar pumpkin.

Either way, you really can’t go wrong at this cozy Harvard Square restaurant. The dishes, rich in autumnal flavor and spices, will make your ride on the Red Line T worth the trip. Just take it from me: Dessert first.
