Well, if last night’s 8-1 trouncing wasn’t enough for Red Sox fans, here’s some more salt to toss into the open wounds of St. Louis Cardinals fans before Game 2: the Sox franchise is worth $1.2 billion more than the Cardinals.

The Boston Business Journal reports that the Sox organization is currently valued at more than $2 billion. Only three other teams in the major leagues can say the same: the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets.

Worth $2.06 billion, the Sox ranked behind the Yankees and Dodgers, and ahead of the Mets, according to new analysis by Bloomberg News.

The Yankees $3.3 billion street value topped the Dodgers, currently worth $2.1 billion. The Sox narrowly edged the Mets $2.05 billion value.

Revenue streams, including annual gate receipts ($174 million), media rights ($89 million), sponsorships ($40 million), and concessions ($36 million) accounted for roughly half — $1.2 billion — of the Boston’s value. Another $675 million comes from the team’s stake in local television channel NESN. Other related businesses and MLB media agreements accounted for $200 million.

The Sox finished only behind the Yankees in terms of annual revenue, raking in $405 million. Annual revenue for the Yanks is $570 million.

The Cardinals currently rank as the 15th most valuable MLB team, in terms of valuation –worth $805 million, taking in $250 million in annual revenue.
