It’s no secret that State Representative and Boston mayoral hopeful Marty Walsh has strong union ties in the Bay State. In fact, the former union official has received as much, if not more, funding from those organizations than just about anyone else across the country. But perhaps the most interesting fact of Marty Walsh’s municipal run is that a substantial amount of those donations have come from far beyond the reaches of Boston, Suffolk County, and even Massachusetts.

Reaching back to just October 25, The Massachusetts Office of Campaign & Political Finance shows that Walsh has received approximately $49,550 out-of-state donations directly from unions. Three of those tap out at $15,000 apiece, the state limit for a group to donate towards a campaign. That’s almost $50K in just four days from unions alone.

A possible shortcoming that fellow contender John Connolly hoped to capitalize on earlier in the race for City Hall was Walsh’s deep union roots. In the first debate between the two candidates, Connolly pointed singled out this fact, noting how such a sturdy connection could lead to a swaying of ideals or even instances of puppetry. Walsh, of course, denied such claims vehemently and countered by outlining his long-tenured legislative career on Beacon Hill.

Still, the piles of cash being raked in by Walsh’s people are staggering. Below is a list of out-of-state contributions Walsh has received from unions over the past four days.
