In case you haven’t noticed, the temperature is plummeting at an alarming rate. And despite the fact that it’s almost November, my southern-born self is not okay (yet) with the incoming cold weather. So folks, I’m afraid the only solution to the freezing temps (and sleeting rain in Oct.) is to indulge in all the comfort food that fall has to offer.

Tough task, I know. But if you’re looking for a toasty bar where you can sip some vino whilst indulging on American fare, then Lineage’s wood fired oven in Brookline will warm you right up.

This Brookline restaurant and bar, located right off the Coolidge Corner T stop, offers an elegant ambience, unique from other Brookline joints (that I’ve seen, anyway). As a Brookline resident, I often find myself patronizing sports bars and beer havens such as Hops n Scotch and The Publick House. Very rarely, do I find myself in such a warm and welcoming Brookline restaurant atmosphere as I did last night at Lineage.

Upon entering the classy establishment, I took notice of the wood fired oven conveniently situated behind the bar. So (obviously), I did what any freezing cold person would do: I decided to sit by the bar and order Lineage’s wood fired flatbread. The flatbread is cooked right in front of you and prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The meat on the flatbread (duck, chicken, etc) changes depending upon the best ingredients that day.

And as far as the Mornay with goat cheese is concerned — I don’t even know where to start. Delicious would be an understatement. The melted cheese was the perfect complement to the broccoli and succulent chicken atop the wood fired flatbread. The dish is also large enough to split with your dinner date or have by yourself as an entree.

If you do decide to split the flatbread, I recommend ordering their fall Heirloom Pumpkin Soup (left) with walnut oil and Pecorino di Pienza. These two dishes together truly create the perfect toasty, warm fall meal.
