Happy Halloween, Boston! It’s been a whirlwind the last couple days; President Obama was in town spitting game, the Red Sox won their third World Series in 10 years, and tonight is All Hallows’ Eve where festive parties, candy, and cider are poised to customarily take over The Hub. But not so fast, eager candy seekers. Mayor Menino just announced the official trick-or-treat hours for Boston. Boo!

To make sure everyone plans their evenings safely “Mayor Menino has declared official hours for trick-or-treating to be from 5 to 8 p.m.” tonight, according to a statement released by his office.

“I encourage everyone to have a fun, safe, and delicious Halloween this year,” Mayor Menino mentioned. “We are out there working hard in our neighborhoods to make sure everyone enjoys the holiday safely and to ensure the safety of our trick-or-treaters.”

But just in case your neighborhood appears bare of any necessary aid, just turn to Twitter.

In hopes of avoiding the age-old adage ‘idle hands are the devil’s workshop,’ the city will be hosting a number of events throughout the municipality for those without a party on the docket or kids to parade through the streets.

Boston Centers for Youth & Families and the Boston Police Department are hosting Halloween events, as are various branches of the Boston Public Library, of which the schedule of all are available right here.
