To Red Sox Nation, last night’s World Series victory displayed the resilience of Boston from its athletes to its citizens and officials on all levels. That group includes Boston mayoral hopefuls Marty Walsh and John Connolly, incumbent Mayor Tom Menino, and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. As you would expect, all of their reactions were spirited and exuberant.
BostInno reached out directly to all of the aforementioned, but only Marty Walsh entertained our query with a response.
“This is such a great win for the people Boston,” Walsh stated. “And like the people of Boston, the Red Sox showed tremendous grit and determination throughout the season and the playoffs. They showed what happens when you build an organization around teamwork, strong leadership, and a never-die attitude. Congratulations to the entire Red Sox organization.”
Although Connolly, Menino, and Patrick have yet to respond, we didn’t have to go far to see how they felt about the Sox last night.
Connolly initially joked about joining in on the riotous celebrations that swept the city from Kenmore Square throughout the Commonwealth.
@FrivolityNow @marty_walsh On my way…

But then he got serious, as did the Mayor and Governor.
Yes! Go Red Sox! I’m wearing a Big Papi motorcycle helmet for Halloween.

Get the ducks ready, we’re having a parade! Please, be responsible, and let’s celebrate! Thank you @RedSox. #bostonstrong

Wow, what a win! Congrats #WorldSeries champions @RedSox and #RedSoxNation. We are #BostonStrong. Let’s have a parade! #cuetheDuckboats

Even President Obama, who was in town yesterday to deliver a speech on his landmark Affordable Care Act, wasn’t immune to the gravity and caliber of the World Series run, noting in his address from Faneuil Hall:
“I’m well aware that a presidential visit is not the biggest thing going on in Boston.” —President Obama #WorldSeries

Though there was jest in his tone, he was certainly being serious. For those looking to continue reveling in last night’s triumph, just don’t celebrate like this. Or this. Or this. Be sure to tune in to the City of Boston’s website and Twitter feed for safety tips and how not to get thrown behind bars.
