Despite coming up with only one reception for 11 yards in the Patriots 55-31 win over the Steelers this past Sunday, Julian Edelman remains New England’s top receiver in the 2013 season stats. His 49 receptions for 473 yards receiving are already career highs, despite the season being barely halfway over. And through the early-season injuries to Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola, Edelman was a blessing for the beleaguered New England receiving corps. Yet with a bye week coming up, Edelman has a little more free time at his disposal. So this evening, the versatile Patriots wideout will be on Reddit for an “AMA” (ask me anything) session, starting at 5 p.m. ET.

Here’s a link to the announcement for Edelman’s AMA, and it does a good job listing his positions, noting that the Kent State grad is a wide receiver, punt returner, cornerback and quarterback (with one commenter noting his sporadic usage at running back too). Though he really can’t claim to have been a quarterback in the pros, it was his college position (where he totaled more overall yards than any player in school history, beating the previous mark set by current New York Jet, Joshua Cribbs).

It should also be little surprise that Edelman is involved with social media or Reddit, given his recent presence teaching an Emerson class about it.

Interestingly, Edelman was not only a seventh round pick in the 2009 NFL draft (the seventh round is the final round), but his company in that particular round was notable. Usually, picks in the seventh round are fairly anonymous, but in 2009 they were decidedly not. Along with Edelman (selected 232nd overall), there were players who either start or have started, like Vance Walker (Falcons), Paul Fanaika (Eagles), the awesomely-named Captain Munnerlyn (Panthers), E.J. Biggers (Bucs), Brad Jones (Packers), Pat McAfee (Colts), Moise Fokou (Eagles), Jamarco Sanford (Vikings), LaRod Stephens-Howling (Cardinals), Ricky Jean-Francois (49ers), Lance Louis (Bears), Rashad Jennings (Jaguars), and Mr. Irrelevant himself, Ryan Succup (Chiefs). Also taken in that round, two more notables: Tiquan Underwood (famous for being the player the Patriots cut the day before a Super Bowl), and Dan Gronkowski, brother of Rob.
