The Boston Chamber of Commerce revealed a new economic initiative yesterday intended to help the business community and private citizens better understand the state of commerce and industry in Massachusetts. Dubbed the “Growth Tracker” Economic Dashboard, the interactive website is a hub of information that displays the economic state of Massachusetts in comparison to the U.S. average.

The dashboard is broken down into eight categories that best surmise the “current economic climate and trends, in one easy-to-use, central location,” according to the press release. The categories include job growth, unemployment rate, state tax collections, housing market, talent (based on degree-holders), innovation (based on patent numbers), state tax ranking, and transportation.

All of the data has been made available for the dashboard by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, MassGov, the Council On State Taxation, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the Census.

For viewers to digest comparisons easier, the dashboard is set up to not only compare Massachusetts stats with the U.S. average but it also creates rankings by region per each category.

According to President and CEO of the Boston Chamber of Commerce Paul Guzzi, “One of our top priorities as a Chamber is to improve the economic climate in our region, and the Growth Tracker is a natural outgrowth of those efforts. The categories reflect our legislative priorities as well as core economic performance data.”
