Lovers of Furby, Angry Birds, and all things addictive and a little bit strange, heads up – the digital pocket “creature” that ruled 90s-era homerooms is coming back.

This new breed of now-glamified LCD pets – rebranded by Japanese company Bandai as Tamagotchi Friends – will hit the market in fall 2014.

But don’t expect “alien-creature blobs,” New York Magazine: The Cut notes. These Tamagotchi Friends have a little more ambition than that. (Are you surprised? They, like you, survived Y2k.) Beauticians, robots, musicians, pet stylists. These are all careers the little egg-shaped nuggets are capable of.

Have to say, like any good former caretaker, I’m proud.
