As the heir-apparent to incumbent Mayor Tom Menino, Mayor-Elect Marty Walsh is a busy fellow. And in following in Menino’s footsteps, his schedule will only get more hectic. Menino is know, after all, as “the neighborhood Mayor,” making it to as many groundbreakings and ribbon-cuttings as Boston has to offer. Following suite, Marty Walsh will have a busy Thanksgiving, making his way from one community Thanksgiving to another before settling down for an evening of feasting and football with his own family.

The mayoral mayhem first begins in East Boston. State Representative Carlo Basile is hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner at Sacred Heart Church. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and meals will be served from 11:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Interestingly, Basile backed Walsh’s mayoral challenger John Connolly during the tightly-contested race. And while the list of hosted Thanksgiving meals will be as long as the menu I’m fortunate enough to enjoy (I’m talking courses for days), Walsh chose Basile’s, perhaps in an attempt to bridge any gap that may have been dug during the race.

Afterwards, Walsh will be making his way to South Boston where he’ll participate in the annual Thanksgiving meal at St. Monica’s Hall. Here volunteers enjoy eating, serving others, and delivering meals to the elderly from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To make things easier on everyone pitching in or enjoying the help, South Boston Today notes “The Southie Shuttle will be providing free rides.”

Walsh’s press secretary Kate Norton told BostInno that once he finishes philanthroping for the day, “the Mayor-Elect will be going to his mother’s house, and to his girlfriend’s grandmother’s house.” Marty’s mother still resides in his native Dorchester.

Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble, gobble, gobble.
