Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Who knew there were so many surprising truths about this feast-filled holiday? This week we learned that bacon actually has more tryptophan than your turkey – sorry you can’t blame those ZzZ’s on your dish. And now, we’ve found out a few additional interesting Turkey Day tidbits.

The Huffington Post released the Huffpost/YouGov poll which revealed a few surprising facts and figures about the holiday – and some not-so-shocking ones. The poll surveyed a sample of 1000 U.S. adults to find out the typical American behavior (by region) at Thanksgiving.

What they found was that in the Northeast, Pumpkin pie reigned supreme among the other pie options. 56% of those living in the Northeast prefered pumpkin pie to other flavors like apple, pecan and sweet potato. Couldn’t agree more with that one.

Another truth discovered in the  survey, revealed that most of the Northeast (82%) says “stuffing” not “dressing.” And while this may seem obvious, I’ll have you know there is a big chunk of the South (and Midwest) where the word “dressing” is the only correct way to describe that delicious turkey accompaniment.

And finally, it seems most Americans do not actually drink on Thanksgiving. Yes – surprisingly – it’s a fact. The survey proved that many Americans (58%) drink a non-alcoholic drink with their turkey meal. As the Huffington Post claims, it really is a “sober Thanksgiving for most,” with the Northeast the least sober of the regions. The drinks of choice seem to be beer (21%) and white wine (21%).

How will you be enjoying your Thanksgiving meal?
