According to Boston Restaurant Talk and a post on the jm Curley Facebook page, fans of the super hot Downtown Crossing bar and restaurant are in for a treat: The minds behind the successful operation are spreading that formula to the South End in the form of a new dining spot for Boston.

Merrill & Co. is slated to open in 2014 – perhaps ‘early’ 2014 if we’re lucky – and will be located at 1 Appleton Street, in the building vacated by 28 Degrees, which closed in September. Boston Restaurant Talk reports that the new restaurant will serve up New England fare with a focus on seafood (naturally) and, true to the jm Curley form, will specialize in both cutting edge and traditional cocktails.

Running the operation will be Jason Cheek, formerly of Willow Road in NYC, as Merrill & Co.’s executive chef, and Kevin Mabry will suit up as the new bar’s beverage director. Mabry was a BostInno Holiday Bash Cocktail Competition finalist in November.

jm Curley saw a year of success, and is currently a finalist for BostInno’s 50 on Fire in Dining & Retail. To catch the winners’ announcement in real time, snag the last few remaining tickets here.) Recently, Executive Chef Sam Monsour, who was known for his creative Sammy’s 7 specials menu, left the restaurant to pursue other endeavors.

It’s certainly been a fantastic year for jm Curley, so we have great things to look forward to from their team in the new year as Merrill & Co. gets up and running.
