It should come as no surprise that when the holidays roll around in Boston, people sometimes feel especially lonely, including singles. And while it’s certainly a sad aspect of the holiday season, it seems that some are possibly taking their sad feelings a tad too far – as in straight to their exes. But I suppose that desperate times call for desperate measures – especially in the world of dating.

Which is why the largest online dating site, PlentyOfFish, decided to survey 9,000 singles across the U.S. to find out how they really feel about being single during this year’s holiday season. What they found was that along with the holiday season came a strong desire to connect with others.

Unfortunately, this also seems to includes connecting (romantically) with long lost exes and even their boss (gasp) – too far. Fifty-seven percent of singles in the U.S. admitted to feeling lonely during the holiday season, while 30 percent of men surveyed said that “they would hook-up with their boss at the company holiday party if the offer was on the table.” Say what?

While 41 percent of single women admitted that they would “like to hook-up with their high school sweetheart” when they return home for the holidays, 26 percent of singles admitted that they had actually “slept with an old flame over the holidays.”

The survey also found that more women than men plan to meet up with their exes over the holidays. Hmm… TMI, anyone? One thing’s for sure – Americans are not afraid of being honest when it comes to their singledom during the holidays. But with a little mistletoe (and a lot of gumption), hopefully everyone will find a special someone to cozy up with this holiday season.
