I recently realized something about myself: I’m in a hair rut. After a teenage bout with experimentation (jet black, bright red, and a bob inspired by 90210’s Kelly Taylor), I’ve played it pretty safe with my hair. But secretly, I want to be a lot bolder. I want to be one of those women who is a natural hair chameleon, who can go from a platinum asymmetrical bob to long auburn waves with ease. Some women – like Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, Drew Barrymore, and Rachel McAdams, just to name a few – actually have this ability.

But what I really, really want to do is chop it all off. I’d love to just go for it and get a pixie cut. Now seems to be the time, with Jennifer Lawrence rocking hers on The Hunger Games red carpet, Charlize Theron mastering the “slightly longer in front/shorter in back” version, and even Beyoncé showing off her pixie for a day. It’s a scary decision, but I have to tell myself that it will always grow back, right? And who knows, I might even end up loving it so much that I’ll be a pixie for life.

So, should I take the plunge?
