Once temps dip below 30 degrees, it’s a mad dash for all things wool, down, and puffy (and if there was such a thing as a portable space heater, that too). But rather than opting for the same overly padded, linebacker-style look whenever you walk out the door, it’s better to tailor your layers to your activity. Here’s how:

For Bitter Commutes
A tight-fitting wool or silk top that easily hides under a button-front + one fleece or teched-out full-zip that can be removed with your jacket + a down coat

For Crushing the Slopes
A wicking base layer (tech or wool materials work best) + an insulating thermal + one fleece half-zip + a waterproof hard-shell jacket

For Long Lodge Breaks
A close-fitting, short-sleeve tee that locks in heat + a super-soft cashmere sweater (in case it’s cold by the fire) + a windbreaking soft-shell jacket

Our Take On the Chill: Winter Layers & Snow Gear Boutique opens on Monday, December 16, at 11AM ET.
