Many of you are familiar with the free app Foursquare – and probably even have it downloaded on your smartphone. I, myself, am a big fan of the app which tracks your “check-ins,” allowing you to tweet or Facebook your location. And admittedly, there is something fun about letting your social network know where you’re eating, drinking or hanging out around town.

Well, it looks as though all of your check-ins this year in Boston didn’t go to waste. In fact, they helped chose the Best of Foursquare 2013 in Boston. The app crunched more than 4.5 billion check-ins and 30 million tips nationwide to create ‘best of’ guides for cities across America. According to Foursquare, the ‘best of’ guide is intended to “celebrate the places people love most from burger joints and cocktail bars to museums and music venues.”

So before we say goodbye to 2013 in Boston, here are Foursquare’s top restaurants by food, nightlife, pubs and things to do – according to Foursquare users in the Hub.
