Some say (in fact, many people say) that New Year’s Eve is the most overrated night of the year. No doubt – expectations run high for the celebratory night. And after gussying yourself up in glitzy clothes, new shoes, champagne, and an expensive party ticket, one would hope that your New Year’s Eve could live up to all of the hype. But alas – many party-goers seem disappointed when all is said and done.

Recently, BuzzFeed put together a video that we think perfectly sums up the NYE expectations versus reality. And in turn, we’ve rounded up a few common comparisons of the different NYE scenarios. But regardless, just make sure you have enough Champagne to get through the night and ring in 2014 right. Happy New Year!

Expectation: You’ll blow everyone away with the perfect sparkly outfit – complete with sequins, bells and whistles.

Reality: You have NOTHING to wear. Nothing.

Expectation: You’ll skip the line and arrive at the bar with your posse, perfectly put together.

Reality: You see how long the line is just to get inside the party.

Expectation: The party is makin’ it rain with high end Champagne!

Reality: You finally received one glass of Andre after waiting in line for 45 minutes. Congrats!

Expectation: The party goes all night long

Reality: You passed out before 1 a.m.

Expectation: You kissed the love of your life at Midnight

Reality: A sloppy make out with your best friend

Expectation: You’re so hungover the next morning.

Reality: The next morning – it’s just your typical Wednesday morning! Happy New Year!
