Given our busy and sometimes unpredictable days, keeping those New Year’s fitness resolutions can quickly slip down in our list of priorities. For me, it’s almost impossible to hit the gym and eat healthy every single day – and after a while it becomes more of a hassle than anything else. But it doesn’t mean we wouldn’t try if diet and fitness were somehow made simpler.

Fortunately, there’s a chef and a fitness expert in town who are making it simpler for all of us. jm Curley’s former chef, Samuel Monsour and his wife, Astrid Bengtson, health and fitness expert of BodyTalk Factory, have created a Paleo lifestyle app called #True28. The smartphone app will help others “take their health into their own hands by bridging the gap between the Paleolitic Era – how we lived for 2.6 million years – and the present,” as noted in a release.

Those who are interested can sign up with the BCAE (Boston Center for Adult Education) for a four-part class focusing on fitness, lifestyle and nutritional principles of the #True28 app.

“I’m excited about changing the idea of what ‘fitness’ really is,” the app’s co-creator, Bengtson, tells BostInno. “This app is taking the concept of the entire Paleolithic Era – including development and movement – and getting people back to the natural state of things with corrective exercises.”

In the BCAE class, each participant will learn how to utilize the four features of the app – Power, Provisions, Presence, and Progress through progressive exercise classes with Bengtson, workshops and, of course, Paleo-style cooking demos with Chef Monsour.

Bengtson tells us that the two of them wanted to build a community. “We thought it would be inspiring and motivating if we could find a big group of people and go through this journey together.” She continues, “The two of us created everything from scratch, including the programming and photos. We’re trying to share what has worked for the two of us and has helped us live a happier life.”

Bengtson explains that, in addition to the other features (Power, Provisions and Progress),“We’ve added the ‘Presence’ feature, which will encourage personal growth and real happiness. Every day you will complete a daily challenge that will help your personal growth – such as nurturing relationships.”

Participants will purchase the #True 28 app upon enrolling in the classes and practice what they learn in the classes for 28 days in February. The classes will meet every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to review their progress with Monsour and Bengtson. During each session, students will practice a progressive exercise led by Bengtson followed by a paleo brunch prepared by Chef Monsour. All recipes and exercises will be included in the app, which should launch (hopefully) sometime next week.
