The New England Revolution aren’t on as many Boston sports fans’ radars as they should be. Even before the first two rounds of Thursday’s MLS Super Draft, they were quietly sitting on an impressive collection of young talent. And after the final pick of round two was made (rounds three and four will be conducted next Tuesday), it was clear that New England had only added to their array of skilled players.

Heading into the draft, they held the 12th and 19th picks. Earlier this week, they traded up for the 4th pick, and eventually made moves to get the 11th pick too. The net result? Selecting two of the better attacking players in the entire draft.

4th pick: attacking midfielder/forward Steve Neumann.

From Georgetown, he’s versatile and should fit into Jay Heaps’ apparent vision of a free-flowing attack. He led the Big East last year in scoring (10 goals, six assists) and is the type of soccer player who actually warrants the occasionally over-used description of “clever.”

This pass, for example, is the type of play that not only the Revs, but MLS, need more of:

11th pick: forward Patrick Mullins.

A tireless forward, Mullins is a nightmare to defend in man-t0-man, constantly moving off the ball. He’s a quality finisher and dominated the ACC, finishing with 19 goals and eight assists in the regular season. Since Juan Agudelo is leaving New England for Europe, he could be an ideal replacement.

Not going to lie, he looks like a possible star:
