Just 16 days until the top two teams in the NFL take the field for the Big Game. We’ve been counting down the months, weeks, days, and hours since the very first kickoff of the season. (Yes, even those among us who only appreciate football for the chance to show off our pigs-in-a-blanket cooking finesse.) And now it’s really, finally almost here.
So, with the AFC and NFC championship games kicking off this weekend, we figured it’s the perfect time to wax athletic. This is why we love football. And why you should, too.
Love #1: Epic Rivalries
At 3PM this Sunday, the most exciting player rivalry in football – Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning – will play out once again as the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos fight for the top spot in the AFC. For the NFC game at 6:30PM, the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks will match up. And it just so happens that they can claim the biggest team rivalry in football. From the players to the coaches to the fans, these two teams can’t stand each other.
Love #2: Those Old Guard vs. New Guard Moments
While Brady and Manning have been in the league for more than a decade, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson entered the ranks of the NFL only within the last few years. The fact that we’ll have a seasoned veteran vs. rising-star quarterback matchup on the field come game day keeps things interesting – and really exciting. If I wasn’t a lifelong Patriots fan, I’d be rooting for one of the young guys.
Love #3: Guilt-Free Food & Good Company
Storming stadium parking lots and grilling burgers with thousands of other fans (rain, snow, or shine). Congregating with friends and gorging on buffalo wings while using our lucky sweatshirts as napkins. When a football game is on, diets, social graces, and manners all fly out the window. And that’s exactly how we like it.
