By now you probably realize that the intensely popular fitness movement, CrossFit, is not for the faint at heart. But for Brookline residents looking to keep up their New Year’s fitness resolutions, the facility is coming at a good time. CrossFit in Coolidge Corner plans to officially open a week from today on Monday, January 27.

The CrossFit, opening at 1285 Beacon Street, will be Brookline’s first CrossFit location and will feature the latest equipment from Rogue Fitness, Again Faster and EliteFTS including: Lift Platforms, Rogue Fitness Monster Pull-Up Rigs, Rowers, Again Faster Size Adjustable Box Jumps and EliteFTS Specialty Bars.

According to a release, the Coolidge Corner CrossFit location will be a 4,100 square foot facility open seven days a week. The CrossFit will offer eight daily one-hour small group training classes which will feature a “Workout of the Day,” as well as a Reebok-branded apparel and gear retail store.

CrossFit Coolidge Corner head coach, Brett Kokoruda, is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and a Level 1 Certified CrossFit coach.

Here, the head coach offers BostInno 6 tips to help you get your CrossFit workout off on the right foot – because let’s face it – those workouts can be pretty intimidating.

Get Acquainted

Most CrossFit boxes offer free fitness assessments, including CFCC. We do this for a reason. Use the time to ask questions, get acquainted with the CrossFit methodology and the different style of coaches.

Know Your Fitness Level

The best part of working out is making progress and seeing yourself improve. However, don’t push yourself too far, too quickly. Working with a coach to scale your workout is the key to your personalized fitness map.

Keep Your Ego in Check

CrossFit welcomes individuals at all levels—from professional athletes to beginners. Competition is part of the game, but you are competing against yourself, not the person next to you.

Mix It Up

CrossFit is extremely fun and with workouts that vary each day, it can be easy to overdo it. I recommend three days on and one day of active rest. Also, mixing up your CrossFit workout with a lower intensity exercise like yoga can improve flexibility, help you focus and teach you appropriate breathing techniques.

Eat Clean

Emphasize lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, nuts and healthy fats, while avoiding processed foods and sugars. This is key to providing your body the fuel it needs to successfully get through and recover from a workout. Juice cleanses are all the rage, but if you are detoxing, it may not be the best time to start a CrossFit workout.

Stick With It

Don’t throw in the towel after only one session. It will take your body time to get used to CrossFit workouts. Stick with it and you’ll build strength and transform your body.

Hopefully, with these tips, all Brookline dwellers will feel right at home when visiting their new CrossFit Coolidge Corner location. Let us know what you think about the new CrossFit in the comments below!
