After a steady stream of awards shows celebrating both movies and TV, last night it was all about the music industry. Forget elegant gowns and dainty jewelry – at the Grammys, the red carpet is by far the most entertaining part of the show. The fashions are a little wild (Daft Punk in helmets), a little revealing (Paris Hilton in super-sheer House of Milani) and a little unexpected (Madonna and son David in matching Ralph Lauren suits). Here are my top five picks for best dressed:

Ciara
A pregnant and showing Ciara wore a custom-made bronze-sequined Emilio Pucci dress. “It took three or four fittings, one of them in Milan,” she explained. Topping the look off was her perfectly messy hair and a flawless no-makeup makeup look.

Beyoncé
Okay, so it wasn’t as racy as her opening performance number, but Bey’s strategically placed Michael Costello gown still stood out. Her ombré asymmetrical bob, red lips, and minimal accessories finished off her barely there look.

Taylor Swift
The Album of the Year nominee went for a striking Gucci chain-mail column gown. “I think it’s bulletproof,” she said. “I love it and am so happy I get to wear it. It’s like a suit of armor.”

Rita Ora
Admitting she wanted to take a break from gowns, the British singer opted for a knee-length, second-skin dress. Paired with old Hollywood–inspired hair, sultry makeup, and plenty of statement rings, her sexy liquid Lanvin choice hit all the right notes.

Katy Perry
Wearing a whimsical Valentino gown hot off the Paris couture runway, the “Roar” nominee’s sheer chiffon music-note motif was perfectly appropriate. “It’s musical for music’s biggest night,” Perry said. Her intricate braided updo, peach lipstick, and drop earrings completed her princess look.
