The Boston Athletic Association announced Wednesday that they will throw a tribute event in remembrance of the devastating Boston Marathon bombings that rocked Boston to its core exactly one year after it happened. On April 15, 2014 Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick will host the ceremony at the Hynes Convention Center.

Along with help from One Fund Boston, the primary charity intended to help ease the pain and suffering of those affected by the infamous incident, the event will pay homage to the victims who lost their lives and limbs, survivors and first responders.

According to the BAA, “featured at the event will be speakers representing families of those affected, medical staff who treated patients, responding government agencies and a host of civic leaders.” The memorial will end with a stately flag-raising and a sure-to-be powerful moment of silence.

“On April 15, we recall the courage, compassion, and commitment of our great city and its people,” said Mayor Martin Walsh in a statement. “Through this event, Boston again stands as one: paying tribute to all those affected by last year’s events and once again showing the world that Boston’s spirit of resiliency lives on.”

As much as the BAA, One Fund, Mayor Walsh and Governor Deval Patrick would enjoy the presence of every Bostonian and heartfelt supporter to attend the event, Hynes Convention Center space and parking restrictions allow otherwise. The event will be invitation only. More information about scheduling and logistics are expected to be released soon hereafter.

“As a community, we were put to the ultimate test by the events at last year’s Boston Marathon,” noted Governor Patrick. “But we rose to the occasion: turning to each other, rather than against and showing the world what a strong community looks like. Though we all had our lives affected in profoundly different ways, this Tribute will show the world again that we stand as one.”

News of this commendation comes just after Massachusetts Congressman William Keating announced his intention to host a Congressional hearing in Boston to give voice to the victims and first responders of the bombing. Details of the forum are expected to be made known upon completion of the House Homeland Security Committee’s investigation into the domestic attack.
