As the latest winter storm to hit Boston begins to fall, Mayor Walsh and his snow team are already prepared. Though he has yet to issue a likely snow emergency and parking ban due to what’s being called Winter Storm Quintus, the mayor as made it known that come 5:30 p.m. he will have deployed some 600 pieces of snow removal equipment throughout Boston’s various neighborhoods and streets.

According to the National Weather Service via the mayor’s press office, “the latest forecasts indicate that the storm is expected to result in approximately six to eight inches of snow in Boston,” with the heaviest accumulations taking place between 6:00 p.m. and midnight. During that time the rate of snowfall is thought to be between one and two inches per hour.

Along with the snow, Boston is likely to see wind gusts reach as high as 40 mph and temperatures in the  20 to 25 degree range.

The Public Works Department began treating citywide roadways at 1:00 p.m. in anticipation of Quintus, though drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution due to the potential lack of visibility caused by the often ruthless tandem of snow and wind.

Should Mayor Walsh deem it necessary to to enact a snow emergency and parking ban, those in possession of a vehicle with a valid parking sticker will have to relocate to discounted parking at nearby garages, or risk getting fined or towed.
