Pope Francis is without a doubt the first modern Pope. He Tweets. He loves soccer fútbol. And he’s taken a generally more compassionate approach to same-sex marriage. It’s safe to say he’d be welcome here in Boston.

But it’s unlikely,  according to CBS Boston, Pope Francis is considering a visit to the United States sometime in 2015. Despite relaying Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s request to il Papa that he stop by The Hub during his possible tour of the good ole’ U.S of A.

“The city of Boston has always been known as a city of profound faith: faith that its diversity makes it strong; faith in doing the right and appropriate thing for its poor; and faith in the power of truth and justice,” the mayor wrote, in part, to the Pope.

According to the Boston Globe, Pope John Paul II came to Boston in 1979, and the city named a 65-acre park in Dorchester after him. There’s even a slab on Boston dedicated to the pontiff’s visit.

“If he wants to come to Boston, we are more than ready and happy to be a part of that process,” Boston Archdiocese spokesperson Terrence Donilon said. “And we think the mayor has really expressed himself beautifully in that letter to the pontiff, so we’ll see what happens.”
