On Monday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will host his second Twitter chat with residents tuning in at 3:00 p.m. This will be the mayor’s third direct tęte-ŕ-tęte with Bostonians as a whole, previously hosting a similar Twitter chat, as well as one on Facebook. And this time, it looks as though he’s calling out a local celebrity to participate.

Demonstrating his growing social media dexterity, Mayor Walsh took to Vine on Friday to announce his Twitter forum and call out none other than Matt Damon to join in on the fun. The Academy Award-winning actor is without an account of his own and became the butt of a joke by Jimmy Kimmel for being essentially unreachable in this digital age of constant connections.

See for yourself:

Though Mayor Walsh may have had a shaky start taking to what’s arguably the most utilized form of communication amongst millennials, and understandably so, the prevalence with which he’s holding them will only make him more savvy on various networks while bolstering his connection with the demographics who frequent social media.

The mayor’s media push is nothing new to the institution of politics and one that has aided leaders at the municipal, state and federal levels in hopes of conveying (missing connector here?) their respective ideas and plans while bridging connections between themselves and the masses. One could liken Mayor Walsh’s early adoption of social media to the way Thomas Jefferson wielded the power of the newspaper, Franklin Roosevelt the radio and John F. Kennedy the television. Any media is an invaluable resource and Mayor Walsh is smart to have tapped into it from the early days of his administration.

Whether Matt Damon will join in on the fun this afternoon remains unclear. In the meantime, for those looking to pose questions to the mayor, be sure to tune in to Twitter at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon using the hashtag #askmjw to send your questions directly to the mayor’s Twitter handle, @marty_walsh.

See you there.
