The pooch known to the Greater Boston Area as Puppy Doe may be gone but won’t soon be forgotten. It’s been months since the stray dog found abandoned in Qunicy passed away due to terrible torture tactics but the city has approved a new memorial to keep Puppy Doe alive in our hearts and minds for some to time to come.

According to The Patriot Ledger, a local publication, the city has allowed for the building of a Puppy Doe memorial bench at the Whitwell Street Playground. Upon its being situated, thought to be during the spring of 2014, a commemoration and dedication ceremony will take place in honor of the dog.

Since Puppy Doe’s untimely passing, residents and visitors have donned the playground with photos, flowers and candles that eventually had to be taken down. The memorial bench will act as a permanent tribute to the helpless animal who was subjected to unfathomable torment.

“This bench is from all of us,” Diane O’Meara of Quincy, who proposed the bench along with Cheryl Wallace and other Puppy Doe supporters told the Ledger. “You think it’s only you, like ‘it’s just a dog; why do I feel this way?’ But everybody feels this way.”

She went on to tell the publication that the bench will be made of black granite, include an engraving of Puppy Doe’s face and boast a plaque with the date she was euthanized. The bench is also thought to bear some kind of inscription though the details of such have yet to be finalized.
