SXSW is here for another year, and chances are, you’ll have at least 10 people populating your Twitter feed with those pesky #SXSW tweets over the next two weeks. And for someone who can’t fly out to Austin for all the fun, sifting through the social conversation on something that you’re not even a part of can be annoying. Now that day one is finally here, we’ve got you covered when it comes to blocking out all of those #SXSW tweets that will make you feel left out of the action.

The first option you have is to download Declutter, a Javascript bookmarklet that allows you to “blacklist” with certain keywords that you don’t want showing up in your timeline. It works with any browser, too.

Your second choice is Tweetcaster. This app allows you to swipe across any tweet and “zip” or block anything unwanted, including a hashtag, key word or the user themselves. While easy to use and giving the user tons of options, one fault of the app lies in the fact that it’s impossible for the user to know what they’ve already “zipped,” since there is no way to keep track of these options.

If you’re a Tweetdeck user, you’re in luck. The plug-in comes with a built-in filtering option. Going under “Settings,” go to “Global Filter” which will give you the option to block tweets from specific users, or all tweets using specific words like “SXSW.”

Finally, Hootsuite users can filter columns by keywords or Klout scores. This way you can choose to only follow the big players if you still want to keep up on some actual news, without seeing what all those guys in the pit of the music portion are drinking tonight.

So get those blocks up and get ’em up quick. The festival kicks off today and runs through March 16th.
