You know the dilemma. You want to work out, but don’t really have time for multiple wardrobe changes throughout the day. You need those gym clothes to do double (maybe triple) duty if you have errands to run pre- and post- workout. Things like brunch, coffee, grocery shopping… you name it. I reached out to Rue Stylist Emma L. for some expert advice on how to style workout clothes for those non-workout moments.

As Emma explains, you should be deliberate about what you’re choosing to work out in. “With the right pieces, running from Pilates to pancakes is a snap,” she says. “Stick to sleek separates in a neutral color palette – black is always chic, even at the gym.”

And afterward? “Switch from your sneakers to simple black ballet flats and throw your hair into a cute top knot or chignon – no one will be able to tell if you’re before or after an elliptical sesh.” Which, as we all know, is definitely the goal.

Our Hike, Stretch, Run: Fitness Fashion for Women Boutique opens on Tuesday, March 11, at 11AM ET.
