On March 13 at 5 p.m., prepare to see a new dining destination open its doors in the Downtown Crossing area. Legal Crossing, a fresh take on a familiar chain here in Boston, will be the first and only one of Legal Sea Foods’ new concept restaurant to pop up in Boston.

According to the Legal Sea Foods website, the restaurant concept is inspired by the vibrant DTX neighborhood:

Legal Crossing is an urban neighborhood restaurant inspired by the vibrancy of Downtown Crossing, then and now.  It’s a cross between all of the Legal Sea Foods concepts, evolved into a new, singular experience.

The restaurant’s menus, available online, show that the new one-off outpost will follow Legal’s footsteps and specialize in seafood, with some updated twists. The dinner menu, for example, has a section titled “Pure and Fresh,” similar to a raw bar, with items like oysters (shucked, baked, fried or grilled), clams and a “seafood tower” appetizer, as well as a “Simply LX” section dedicated to signature seafood dishes paired with seasonal sides, like swordfish kabobs, broiled shrimp, grilled salmon, baked cod, and grilled lobster.

Also on the menu are “Plates to Share,” as tapas are taking over the dining world, with options like tempura skewered mussels, smoky salmon tartare and bang bang cauliflower (also super hot right now). While only dinner will be served through the end of this week, starting on Saturday, both lunch and a late night menu will be served and the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For lunch, diners can expect to see items similar to dinner, like the same Pure & Fresh and small plates offerings, but with an added section for sandwiches and burgers, from a crispy fish sandwich to a tuna burger.

The menu items are moderately priced, and fit within the “urban” style that Legal is aiming for. Get a look inside the contemporary restaurant in the slideshow below, and head over to try out Legal Crossing, which is located at 558 Washington Street in Downtown Crossing.
