South Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is going to require the MBTA to rework its schedule a little bit; some bus routes are going to run along special or diversion routes, and people will have to pay cash at T parking garages and lots.

Starting around 11 a.m. Sunday, March 16, MBTA buses will stop making trips in and out of Broadway and Andrew Stations, due to heavy traffic and road closures. Red Line subway service will still be available, though.

Six bus routes –  9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 47 – will be diverted.

  1. Route 9: Service will not operate for the duration of the parade.
  2. Route 10: Service will begin/terminate at the South Bay Mall.
  3.  Route 11: Service will not operate for the duration of the parade.
  4.  Route 16: Connections can be made at the South Bay Mall and the lower level of JFK/UMass Station.
  5. Route 17: Connections can be made at Fields Corner Station and the lower level of JFK/UMass Station.
  6. Route 47: Service will begin/terminate on Albany Street at East Berkley Street.

The 7 bus, which usually doesn’t run on Sundays, will make trips out of South Station to City Point, starting at 9 a.m. The last trip out of South Station will leave at 6 p.m.; the last ride from City Point will cruise out at 6:30 p.m.

Parking at MBTA garages or lots on Sunday will be pay-on-entry. Anyone looking to park at these locations will need to pay straight cash, homie.
