“A Day in the Life” is a series where we’ll profile a variety of residents to get an intimate glimpse into their day-to-day. These are your neighbors. Get to know them.

There are few faces in Boston more recognizable than Janet Wu. The popular news anchor and reporter with the NBC Boston affiliate, WHDH-TV 7News, is well-known around town both for her exuberant personality and for her work.

The multimedia journalist can often be seen emceeing for non-profit charitable events, such as last night’s A Spoonful of Ginger fundraiser, benefitting the Joslin Diabetes Center. When Wu isn’t insanely busy working and meeting tight deadlines, you can find her singing, dancing, writing and hiking Macchu Picchu (no, really).

Here, the Boston reporter gives Bostinno a glimpse into her daily life, which, trust us, is never boring.

Marian White: How do you spend most mornings?

Janet Wu: Rushing. I think it’s part of having a deadline-driven job. On good days, I fit in yoga before work, but most days, I’m just rushing. I also tend to sing and dance a lot while I’m getting ready. It’s pretty dorky.

What are the top priorities on your to-do list right now?

Keeping healthy and happy. Both are choices that require work, time and consistent effort.

What do you enjoy most about being a television reporter and an anchor in Boston?

Every day is different, and I truly learn something new and meet someone interesting every single day.

What is the worst part and the best part about your typical day?

The worst part is the stress leading up to airtime or a deadline. The best part of my day always involves people I love who have nothing to do with work.

If you could impart one piece of advice to our readers, what would it be?

Every person should consider themselves an editor. Instead of complaining about what is out there, you should be carefully choosing what you read, watch and absorb. Just like a computer: junk in, junk out. Also, it’s our responsibility to know what’s going on in our world, locally and internationally.

Where is your favorite place to eat in Boston?

Impossible to answer. There are so many great places these days! For newer places, I’ve had great meals at Ostra and Row 34. Mistral and Bistro du Midi are wonderfully consistent. During winter, I gravitate to the fireplaces at The Bristol and Post 390.

What would you do if you were suddenly granted a day off from work tomorrow?

I’m doing it. I am flying to Peru to hike to Machu Picchu tomorrow. Every year around this time, I give myself a new country. And I go alone. At work, I am known for working insane schedules and then taking off to faraway places.

If you weren’t answering my questions, what would you be doing instead?

Getting together with friends or playing the piano. Sometimes I combine the two.
