It’s open! An official source tell us that Grill 23’s brand-spanking new bar received its permit yesterday and opened last night. Located in Boston’s Back Bay, Grill 23’s classic, Mad Men-like ambiance has become a fixture among Boston diners. But now, with the recent renovation of its downstairs bar area, Grill 23 has added some sparkle to its entire restaurant experience: the glistening all-glass bar.

Grill 23’s new glass bar sparkles. You’ll immediately take notice of it as you walk through the doors – along with the sleek new caramel-colored bar chairs and the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The interior is both chic and modern. And the food and libations aren’t any less impressive. For starters, I’m pretty excited about the bar food menu, which includes small plates, larger shareable plates, entrees and sweets.

Some of the menu highlights include: Daily Bread (a daily assortment of sandwiches), a charcuterie plate, beer battered fish, bolognese and scotch egg (meatloaf crust). The desserts also sound phenom, with choices like chocolate paté, sea salt popcorn and crunchy peanut butter.

And now for the bar highlights. Grill 23’s new bar offerings include quite a serious scotch program, offering flights of scotch with glasses ranging from $15 to $215 a glass. It looks like I’ll have to settle for that $15 option sometime soon. Additionally, the spirits list includes quite a variety of cognacs, cordials, bourbon and much more.

Cocktails include the Provencal Gimlet, served with a house-made fennel vodka, muddled fresh basil and thyme with lavender syrup. Yum!

Also Grill 23 features Our Old Fashion libation, a smooth cocktail served with High West Campfire Whiskey, Michigan Cherry Tart, house-made bitters, orange and Luxardo cherries (aka every man’s dream libation).

As Grill 23 celebrates 30 years in business with this bar makeover, we have to say the Back Bay spot has never looked better.
