Believe it or not – there are advantages to being single in a big city. You have the freedom to go wherever you want, do whatever you want and of course, happy hour as often as you want.

For Boston singles though, this seems to be especially true. According to a study by the world’s largest dating site, PlentyOfFish, boozy drinks play a pretty big role in the lives of singles. I mean, tell us something we don’t already know.

While Massachusetts didn’t make the top 10 states with the heaviest drinkers list (good news), the study did reveal that Boston singles do quaff down quite a few alcoholic drinks “socially.”

Nearly 83 percent of single men and 86 percent of single ladies in Boston drink socially. To get a better look at who they are exactly – the study also reveals that single Boston men between the ages of 21 and 25 are 54 percent more likely to drink often. While single Boston women of the same age are 66 percent more likely to drink often.

I guess this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise in Boston. Many folks between the ages of 21 and 25 are single and ready to mingle. And with numerous meetups, bars and various other ways to meet people in Boston, this city has quite a few opportunities to “drink socially.”

So there you have it, folks. Everything you already knew – confirmed.
