The medical marijuana industry in Massachusetts is a budding one and continues to slowly grow from the seeds planted by the Department of Public Health. No money has been made – save for the tens of thousands the DPH charged those throughout the licensing process – but the new, green business is poised to line the state’s pockets with millions. One pizza place in Vancouver, British Columbia is proving that when it comes to medical marijuana, ‘getting baked’ has a more traditional meaning.

That’s because the shop in question, Mega iLL, is literally baking THC oil into their pies. For an extra $10, writes TIME magazine, customers are afforded their special, truly baked, marijuana infused pizza.

All that’s required of a customer to order one of these highly-prized pizzas is to be at least 18 years of age or older and have a medical marijuana card. Mega iLL, therefore, is one part pizzeria and one part dispensary.

” With a dream of a marijuana friendly establishment serving hemp heart pizza with a one of a kind taste, Mega iLL was born,” bills Mega iLL on its website. “We strive to offer healthy food in a pot friendly environment with a positive attitude and outlook on life. Come enjoy life with us and feel good about the food you eat while having a safe place to relax and medikate.”

According to CBC Canada News, Mega iLL started selling its edible lineup on, surely fitting for some, April 1, April Fools’ Day.

“Basically we infuse it through an oil extraction process, where we drizzle the oil onto the pizza and it medicates you when you eat it,” Mega iLL’s Anthony Risling told CBC. “It’s a little different effect from smoking it. It takes maybe about a half hour for it to activate.”

It’s unclear if one of those awarded a medical marijuana dispensary here in the commonwealth would be able to make and sell their own edible products at this point in time. The process has come under question by many who doubt its validity, though the DPH has since promised to proceed slowly and accurately to make sure when the first medical marijuana dispensary opens its doors, things go off without a hitch.

Two dispensaries have been given the green light to open in Boston, pending the city’s own approval, so given the quality of pizza we’re lucky enough to have in our own midst – cough, Regina’s, cough – I doubt anyone would be that quick to put an end to the entire process.

So if you happen to possess a Canadian medical marijuana license and happen to live out in Vancouver, check out Mega iLL and let us know your thoughts on their “special” pizza in the comments section below.
